Expo 2020 Dubai

Expo 2020 Dubai is the first World Expo to be held in the Middle East, Africa and Asia region, Fri, 1 October 2021 – Thursday, 31 March 2022.

Historic innovations

TV set

The first live television broadcast was at the New York World’s Fair in 1939.
A theater equipped with a huge high-definition projection screen, also known as an HDTV, was unveiled at Expo 2005 Aichi in Japan.

Computers

The Analytical Engine of Charles Babbage, one of the first mechanical computers, was exhibited at the 1862 London International Exhibition of Industry and Art.
Visitors to the 1962 Seattle 21st Century Exposition were amazed by IBM’s first voice recognition device, the Showbox.

Phones

Alexander Graham Bell was able to demonstrate the world’s first telephone in 1876 at the Philadelphia Centennial Exposition of Art, Manufactures, Products of Soils, and Mines.
The 1970 Osaka World’s Fair in Japan also gave visitors the first opportunity to discover the mobile communication technology on display.

Foods

Many food innovations were launched at World Expos, including popcorn and Heinz’s famous tomato sauce at the Philadelphia Centennial Exhibition of Art, Industry, Land Products and Mines in 1876, as well as ice cream cones at the 1904 World’s Fair in St. Louis.

Historical Designs

Crystal Palace

The Great Exhibition was held in London at the historic Crystal Palace in 1851, with the aim of displaying the innovations of the Industrial Revolution.

Eiffel tower

The main symbol of the 1889 World’s Fair in Paris was not widely popular and some launched a campaign to dismantle it after the exhibition closed.

Ferris wheel Entertainment Spinner

The 1893 Chicago World’s Fair saw the installation of the world’s first Ferris wheel, the entertainment wheel, invented by George Ferris, to provide an enjoyable experience for visitors.

Atomium

The Atomium, originally built for the 1958 Brussels World’s Fair, housed the world’s fastest elevators at the time.

Space Needle Tower

The 1962 Seattle Twenty-first Century Exposition featured the Space Needle Tower, a 185-meter-high building with a restaurant on top that still graces the city’s skyline today.

Alwasl Square

Alwasl Square, the world’s largest unsupported dome, is the most important landmark of Expo 2020 and will remain an exceptional centerpiece in District 2020.
